Completed in 1882 within the Upper East Side Historic District, this 25-foot-wide, four-story townhouse is one of a distinguished row of six. While preserving the historic facade—noted for its sculptural and ornate railings, wreath panels, and Tiffany-inspired stained glass parlor window - the home underwent a complete gut renovation. By retaining the historic front / rear facades and perimeter masonry party walls, the design team was able to keep a unique 1930s overbuilt rear extension, repurposing the townhouse as a luxurious second home. The interior is organized into roughly three equal bays, with the middle bay featuring a transparent grey-glass elevator enclosure and cab. A sinuous, semi-circular staircase wraps around this glass tower, against a backdrop of alternating vertical and horizontal highly refined European oak paneling. The design accommodates dramatic floor-to-ceiling height variations (ranging from 11 to 16 feet), creating a visually expanding and contracting staircase.

First Floor: Features the main public areas consisting of a formal dining room with richly stained larch millwork and a living room detailed in full-height leather panels, white oak accents, and a gently curved plaster ceiling.

Second Floor: Features a family room with an artisan blackened bronze custom fireplace, artisan media center, and access to a restored Juliette balcony via three full height French doors. The rear portion supports two ensuite bedrooms.

Third Floor: An expansive master suite with a dressing room, a timber-and-glass sunroom with custom white oak louvers and a 300 sq. ft. planted private terrace. The master bath has a free standing soaking tub and private shower with the entire space rendered in Carrara marble and white oak millwork.

Fourth Floor & Roof: A library with exposed timber trusses and custom skylights accentuate the profile of the of the existing mansard roof volume and the dormer windows. The final leg of the winding staircase leads to a light-filled bulkhead and a roof terrace with panoramic / iconic Manhattan views.
