This comprehensive architectural expansion and renovation transforms the 1970 Riverdale Neighborhood House (RNH) Teen Center, re-imagining a formerly single story structure into a vibrant, high volume community hub. The design introduces a second-floor vertical addition, creating a new mast-head for the campus that visually anchors the public pool and defines a new era for the historic 1872 settlement house.

Key Architectural Features:

• Mast-Head Design & Public Presence: The new addition boosts the center's profile, providing a defining "mast-head" element for the campus, notably reinforced by a continuous roof cantilever that extends over the public pool area, providing a continuous shaded exterior terrace.
• Volumetric Addition & Program: The second-floor enlargement houses a multi-purpose gymnasium, offices, and storage, effectively creating a "home-away-from-home" for teens while expanding RNH’s and the neighborhood’s athletic programming capability.
• Lower-Level Rehabilitation: The project rejuvenates the lower level, incorporating a modernized computer lab, refurbished shower and locker room facilities, and a revitalized teen lounge.
• Materiality & Light Assembly: The design utilizes a “light” material palette of horizontally ribbed zinc siding panels contrasted with a lower base of durable fiber cement panels. This selection provides a striking visual counterpoint to the "heavy" masonry of the adjacent 1872 library building.

The project honors the 150-year legacy of the Riverdale Neighborhood House as a community cornerstone, enhancing its capacity to serve Bronx families through contemporary design.
